CLINICAL THERAPIST

Brendan Kearns,

MSW, LCSW

Brendan is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of California. He is currently accepting clients virtually and in-person. He has been practicing within the field of mental health for over thirteen years in a number of clinical and supervisory roles. His experience spans the lifespan of care from ages 6-65, having specialized in child and adolescent outpatient and inpatient care in his early career; with adults and families in the private and public sectors thereafter.

Brendan works closely with adolescents and adults to help them understand what drives and motivates anxiety, problematic behaviors and decisions, OCD, stress, and depression while supporting them to overcome some of the most difficult aspects of these disorders that often make people feel helpless to their symptoms. Helping clients and families reduce the distress that comes with suffering from a mental illness and mitigating the often-overwhelming sense that one has “lost control” of their life, is a primary focus in therapy with Brendan.

Brendan achieves these goals with clients by paying close attention to early childhood experiences and development; including attachment needs and the biological, psychological, social and spiritual dynamics that lead to one’s decision-making, behaviors and emotional experiences later in life. He has spent his career supporting clients in making choices that improve their well-being, relationships, academic and professional lives and finding ways to eliminate the suffering that people have endured throughout their struggles with mental health issues and crises.

He has also trained with psychiatrist, Dr. Karl Tomm, who is the founder of interpersonal pattern-based family therapy. These studies inform his practice with individuals as they operate as parts of family systems.

Outside of practice, Brendan is a well-traveled surfer, rock climber, entrepreneur, screenwriter, published novelist and charting recording artist. These experiences drive his passion to also support those involved in the creative arts.

At this point in time, Brendan is also accepting associate clinicians who wish to work towards obtaining their clinical hours and designation as an LCSW - please email for more information.
